The farm is home to many ancient avocado trees with huge canopies, and an equal number of younger trees, just coming into their own. Nearly all the avocados are Hass and are sold through an organic distributor or to organic CSAs, though seven huge Rincon avocados, rarely commercially available, rim the property and produce happily on their own, even with benign neglect. Rincons are thinner skinned than Hass, and a bit more delicate and lighter in flavor. The trees also double as forest-bathing sites!
The bananas, now 10 or more, are also shaded by huge ice cream bean trees, which are tropical and wild. The bananas fruit annually–when they fruit, it is with a stalk of 120 or more! Banana leaves are marvelous for steaming, roasting and flavoring other foods.
